Area runners have two events from which to choose this Saturday--the Bustin' It 4 Becky 5k Reindeer Romp in Maiden and the Frosty 5k for Y Readers in Lincolnton.

This is the first Bustin' It 4 Becky 5k.  It will include a Fun Run/Walk.  Proceeds will benefit the Catawba County Backpack for Kids program and provide a scholarship for a local Maiden High School Student.

Prizes will be awarded for the top male and female and age group finishers.

T-shirts will be provided as long as the supply lasts.

The race begins and ends at Cornerstone Church, 409 East Main Street in Maiden.

Race day registration will be from 7:30-8:30 AM, the race starts at 9.  Packet Pick up for those who pre-registered will also be from  7:30-8:30 AM.

This will be the 8th Annual Lincoln County Family YMCA Frosty 5K Race! This year's race will help fund the Y-Readers program giving children performing below grade level the opportunity to continue to improve their reading and writing skills. The Y-Readers program also provides each child with field trips and swim lessons through the summer months..

In addition to the Frosty 5k, there will be a fun run.  Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for those under 18.

Awards will be given to the top male and top female in both events.  Pottery Ornament medals will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age group. T-shirts will be given while supplies last.

Proceeds from the Frosty 5K benefit the Y-Reader literacy program through the Lincoln County YMCA Community Support Campaign. In 2012, the Lincoln County and Sally's YMCAs served 24 Y-Readers with 92% of students maintaining or improving their literacy skills by the end of the summer. The summer of 2013, the Y served 48 students with 88% of students maintaining or improving their literacy skills.

The Frosty 5k begins at the Lincoln Campus of Gaston College on South Aspen Street in Lincolnton at 9 AM, but if you haven't already registered, better get there early.  Race day registration closes at 8:30 AM.

The Frosty 5k is sponsored by Rhyne Financial, Nationwide Griffin Insurance Agency, Family Medicine Associates of Lincoln County, Freedom Church, Rising Sun Pottery,  Gaston College and Fausto Coffee.

The photos with this article are from the Sailview 5k, one of the four major running events in the fall season in Lincoln County.  The others are the Rotary Apple Festival 5k, the Rhyne Financial 5k, and, of course, the Frosty 5k.
