ALWS Update
The American Legion World Series had a bout with the weather on Saturday.  Only one game was completed.  The second was postponed for two hours, then rained out before it could be completed.  That means it will be completed Sunday morning, followed by what had been the scheduled third game of Saturday.

American Legion World Series Update
Gonzales, Louisiana Post 81 became the first two-win team in the American Legion World Series when they beat the team from Wilmington, Delaware 5-4.  The team from Dubuque, Iowa, who had an opening day loss, got a win over the team from Braintree, Massachusetts, 9-1.

The American Legion World Series continues all weekend in Shelby.  Four games were played Thursday; two will be played Friday, and three each on Saturday and Sunday.  The semifinals will be Monday and the championship on Tuesday.

ACS & Carolina Panthers Award $100,000 Grant To Gaston Family Health Services
The American Cancer Society (ACS), in partnership with the Carolina Panthers, awarded the local NFL Breast Health Equity CHANGE Grant to Gaston Family Health Services to address disparities in breast cancer mortality by providing access to breast cancer screening, follow-up of abnormal mammograms and timely access to specialty care if needed.

West Lincoln High School Lady Rebels will host a Basketball Camp for rising 3rd-9th graders June 18-21 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. each day.  Cost is $50 and the camp will be held in the West Lincoln High School Gymnasium.

Most said it was worth the wait--the opening game of the 2018 season at Gastonia's Sims Park on N. Martin Luther King Way (old Dallas highway) was delayed by the weather.  Thursday night's scheduled opener had to be cancelled, so Saturday night's game became the first this season.

The Lincoln Charter Eagles beat previously unbeaten Murphy Thursday night in Mooresville to set up a showdown for the West 1A Regional title on Saturday at Murphy.  Meanwhile, despite an outstanding pitching performance by Joey Cobb, the North Lincoln Knights lost at Thomasville to Ledford Senior to end their season.
