After winning the West region title 14-7 over South Point Friday night, the East Lincoln Mustangs go after win #16 this week in the NCHSAA state 3A championship game Saturday night (Dec. 10th) in Raleigh.

The winners of this week's games earned a spot in next weekend's state championship games. The East Lincoln Mustangs beat South Point 14-7 for their 15th win without a loss, but Burns fell to Reidsville ending their season.

CVAC Names All-Conference Selections, Players & Coach of Year
The Catawba Valley Conference has announced its All-Conference selections for the 2022 season.  Mason Avery of West Lincoln and Chris Culliver of Maiden shared honors as Offensive Player of the Year; Avery was also named Defensive Player of the Year.  Culliver and Bunker Hill's Alan Bahena-Soto were name Specialists of the Year.  Maiden Coach Will Byrne won Coach of the Year honors.

Three area football teams will continue playing this Friday night. East Lincoln, Burns, and South Point are playing for West region titles in the NCHSAA Football playoffs.

Fourth Round Scores Nov. 25th
East Lincoln is now 14-0 after beating Kings Mountain 42-20.  Maiden's season ended with a loss at Reidsville.  Burns won its game with Monroe.  The Mustangs play the Raiders of South Point for the West region 3A title and the Burns Bulldogs play Reidsville for the 2A West region championship next Friday.

It was a miserably rainy Thursday night but many football games were moved up from Friday.  Two area teams were playing soccer playoff games Thursday.  East Lincoln lost to Asheboro but Lincoln Charter won and advanced to the West Region championship game on Tuesday. NCHSAA Round Two Schedule Updated
The weather forecast for Friday calls for rain.  The National Weather Service says the likelihood is near 100% and we may have over an inch of rain.  That's likely to cause the Veterans Day Parade and ceremony on the Courtsquare not to be held, and it has prompted most high schools to move their playoof games up to Thursday.

Mustangs, Eagles Win Monday in Third Round
Two Lincoln County teams advanced to the fourth round of the NCHSAA Boys Soccer playoffs with wins Monday (Nov. 7th).  East Lincoln will play at Asheboro Thursday in the 3A playoffs; Lincoln Charter will visit Newton-Conover in the 2A playoffs.

North Lincoln Girls Win State 3A Cross Country Championship--Again!
North Lincoln's girls won the NCHSAA 3A state championship Saturday (Nov. 5th) at Kernersville.  The Knights boys finished second.  Lincoln Charter finished second in the boys 2A meet.  Lincolnton's Katherine Hopkins took the girls 2A individual title.  Macy Parks from North won the girls 3A individual championship.  Stephen Fernetti from North was second in the boys 3A run.

NCHSAA Football
Long kick and punt returns and a couple of fake kicks were the undoing of the West Lincoln Rebels, who lost at Hendersonville 36-29 Friday night.  The Lincolnton Wolves, who had been a late-game team all season, did it again with a 37-36 overtime win at Randleman.  East Lincoln easily won its first round game as did Maiden.  Here are the scores of the games involving local and area teams.

On to Round Three for Mustangs & Eagles
East Lincoln and Lincoln Charter both advanced to the third round of the NCHSAA Soccer Playoffs with wins on Thursday.  The Mustangs beat South Point 3-2 and will host St. Stephens in round three on Monday (11/7).  The Eagles advanced in the 2A playoffs with a 3-2 win over Pine Lake Prep.  They'll play at East Davidson on Monday.

East Lincoln and Lincoln Charter advanced to the second round of the NCHSAA soccer playoffs.  In 3A play, East won Tuesday 10 - 3 over North Buncombe.  The Eagles won their game Monday over Surry Central 2 - 1.  Both play Thursday in round two.

Results from Saturday's West Regionals
North Lincoln won the boys 3A West Regional Cross Country meet Saturday in Morganton; the North girls finished second.  Lincoln Charter claimed 2nd place in the boys 2A West meet at Swannanoa; the Eagles girls were 5th.  North's Stephen Fernetti and Lincolnton's Katherine Hopkins were first place finishers.

Tennis Scores/Schedule
Local players were eliminated in the NCHSAA Girls Singles & Doubles Tennis Championships on Friday; but West Lincoln and East Lincoln are still alive in the team playoffs.  Because of rain, their matches at Hendersonville (West Lincoln) and Franklin (East Lincoln) were postponed and will be played Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 1st).

Soccer Playoff Brackets Announced
East Lincoln, North Lincoln, Lincolnton, Cherryville, Bandys and Fred T. Foard all made the boys NCHSAA soccer playoffs when the brackets were announced Friday (Oct. 28th).
Many games that had been scheduled for Monday were moved to Tuesday (Nov. 1st) because of rain.

High School Football Oct. 28th
What a game!  West beat LHS 49-48 in double overtime.  The Wolves overcame a 14-point 4th quarter deficit to tie the score at 42-all.  It then took two OTs for the Rebels to win.  East Lincoln beat North Lincoln 28-7 to remain unbeaten.  Burns beat Shelby for the Southern Piedmont title.  Here are the scores.

Soccer/Football
High school boys soccer ended its regular season on Thursday.  The playoffs begin Monday (Oct. 31st).  Seedings will be announced Friday.  Friday is also the last game of the regular season for high school fooball.  West Lincoln at Lincolnton and North Lincoln at East Lincoln are the final regular season games for Lincoln County teams.

NCHSAA Girls Golf
Newton-Conover won the NCHSAA 1A/2A girls golf championship on Tuesday (Oct. 25th).  In the 3A tournament, East Lincoln finished sixth.

Golf
She was the sixth seed in the girls 1A/2A state golf tournament, but Reese Coltrane of West Lincoln was tied for fourth place after the first round of the tourney at Foxfire Gold Club near Pinehurst on Monday.  East Lincoln's Kyla Callahan was tied for 12th in the 3A tourney at Longleaf Club in Southern Pines, but the Mustangs are in second place in the team competition.

Football Scores
Three of the four Lincoln County teams were winners Friday night: East Lincoln won its 9th without a loss 50-7, North squeaked by for its third win 15-12, and West Lincoln Homecoming Queen Deedee Wallace kicked an exra point as Mason Avery surpassed 2000 yds rushing this season in a Rebels win 56-12.  Lincolnton lost at Maiden 35-12.

The number of unbeaten football teams in Lincoln, Gaston, Catawba and Cleveland counties is now down to two.  East Lincoln routed St. Stephens and Kings Mtn. easily beat Stuart Cramer Friday night, but Maiden ended Bunker Hill's unbeaten status.  Lincolnton kept its hopes of a share of a conference title alive.  Here are details.
