Making a hovercraft is nothing new--but making one you can actually ride is another matter. That's what 6th graders at Balls Creek School did. The hovercrafts they made didn't fly high in the sky--but they did cruise just inches above the gym floor. It was not your ordinary field trip.
On Friday (March 17th) Balls Creek Elementary School's sixth grade students participated in an all day, hands-on learning activity. Students worked in teams to construct a low-friction hovercraft, which they were able to ride upon completion.
The goal of the project was to develop teamwork, increase real world learning, and excite students about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. Parent volunteers were on hand to assist learning teams throughout the day.
