The Timken Foundation's grants for 2019 have included two recent gifts to Lincoln County Schools. West Lincoln High School was awarded $20,000 for improvements to the Rebels softball complex.

An even bigger grant went to East Lincoln High School.

The East Lincoln Chorus and Theater program uses a former classroom that was retro-fitted for the purpose as a venue for its productions. Now, thanks to a $115,000 grant from the Timken Foundation, the East Lincoln Black Box Theater will be getting a facelift. A new lighting system and better seating are planned uses for the grant money.

The Black Box Theater is being put to use this weekend and next for the performance of "The Addams Family." What began as a newspaper comic in the 1930s and later became a TV series and currently a film (currently showing at the AMC Theater in Lincolnton and at theaters in Hickory, Shelby and Gastonia) was also the inspiration for the play. A musical performed on Broadway in 2010-2011, the production is very well timed for Halloween. Performances are scheduled for 7 PM this Saturday night (Oct. 26th) and next Friday and Saturday (Nov. 1st and 2nd) and at 2 PM Sunday Nov. 3rd.
