Gwyneth Reep, Luke Stewart and Alexzia Hallman are the top three graduates in the class of 2021 at West Lincoln High School. Reep is the valedictorian, and her boyfriend, Stewart, and their good friend, Hallman, are sharing this year’s honors as co-salutatorians. (See separate articles.)
Reep is the daughter of Robbie and Jennifer Reep, and her brother is Clay Reep. All are West Lincoln grads.
Reep was a member of the cheerleading squad at WLHS. “Some of my favorite memories from West are cheering Friday nights for our football team,” said Reep, “playing soccer in the spring and running for the track team in the spring as well.
“Homecoming is one of the most special days of one’s high school career at West Lincoln,” she added, “because we have so many traditions that are specific to our school. These include our tractor parade, which I drove in during my junior and senior years, and the end-of-the-day pep rally, where the cheerleaders perform.”
Reep said her two favorite teachers were math department head Ron Patten, who taught her calculus and statistics, and history teacher and soccer coach John Markley.
“They both pushed me to be the best in the classroom and on the field,” she said. “I am very grateful for both of them.”
Reep shared advice for the class of 2021. “Seize every possible opportunity,” she said, “and don’t let fear stop you from pursuing your dreams.”
In two and a half months, Reep be off to Furman University in Greenville, SC. “I auditioned for and was selected as a member of the dance team that performs at football and basketball games,” said Reep. “I am finishing up my career as a competitive dancer with my home studio, Lincolnton's Alternative Steps Dance Studio, where I take classes and teach students.
“I plan on majoring in political science and international affairs,” she added of her upcoming time at Furman. “My career hopes are to attend law school following undergrad and become an attorney with a specialization in civil-rights law.”
