DALLAS––Gaston College will host an open-house event on Saturday, Oct. 1, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

According to its information and marketing department, this event will showcase all the college’s programs, opportunities and benefits it offers. High school students and their families, adult learners and the general public are invited to this free event.

The open house will follow Gaston College’s second annual “Stampede for Student Success.” This event features a three-mile run or a one-and-a-quarter-mile walk, beginning earlier that morning. The open house will give prospective students the opportunity to tour the campus; get information on certificate, diploma and associate degree programs, adult high school and continuing education courses; and learn more about the expanding athletics and student activities programs. Staffers from admissions, financial aid and others will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about the college.

Attendees may enter drawings to win scholarships, Chick-Fil-A gift cards or merchandise from the recently opened Rhino Shop that proudly promotes the college and its athletic teams. According to Gaston College Director of Admissions Tanisha Williams, it’s a very good opportunity for prospective students.

“No matter where they’re starting from or whether they know what path they want to take, we’ll provide the guidance and support they need to help them succeed,” said Williams.

Gaston College’s arts and sciences, health and human services and career and technical education divisions will be represented at the open house, as will such programs as continuing education and Apprenticeship 321, as Lisa Albright Jurs, the dean of career and technical education, informed.

“We have more than 150 programs of study,” said Jurs, “including several programs that were developed to meet the needs of regional employers in areas such as textiles, public safety, cyber security and health care. Individuals who plan to transfer to a four-year university after earning an associate degree, intend to embark on a career after receiving a certificate or diploma or choose to enhance job skills will see that Gaston College is here to help them set success in motion.”
