Mystery Art & Uptown Art Walk (Shelby)
The Cleveland County Arts Council will sponsor a Mystery Art event as a part of the Uptown Art Walk that starts Thursday and continued through November 17th. Over 140 original works of art (5x7” ready to hang) created by local and regional artists have been donated and will be available for purchase for $40 each--but the identity of the artist will not be revealed until after a purchase is made. A Mystery Art Opening Reception will be held Thursday (October 18th) 5:30 – 7:30 at the Arts Council office, 111 S. Washington Street in Shelby.Proceeds from Mystery Art sale will be used to support the programs and services of the Cleveland County Arts Council.

Flu Shots at Catawba County Health Department
Catawba County Public Health will have two flu vaccine events at the Health Department, 3070 11th Ave. Drive SE in Hickory. Flu shots will be available for ages 3 and up without an appointment this Thursday & Friday (Oct. 18th & 19th 8 - 11:30 AM & 1 - 4:30 PM. Vaccinations will be available by walk-in for individuals age 3 and older. Appointments for infants ages 6-35 months can be made by calling 828-695-5881. Vaccination appointments may also be made for the flu shot beginning October 22. The seasonal flu shot costs $25. For those 65 and older, the high-dose flu shot is available for $46. Accepted forms of payment include cash, check, debit/credit, Medicare Part B (only), NC Medicaid, and NC HealthChoice. Medicare Advantage and other insurance plans will not be accepted; however, individuals may pay and then file with their insurers for possible reimbursement.

Webbs Chapel UMC Community Yard Sale
Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church, 4640 Webbs Chapel Church Road, Denver, will have a Community Yard Sale Saturday 7 AM - 2 PM. The United Methodist Men will be selling breakfast biscuits and coffee Saturday morning. For more information call 704-483-9434.
Battleground School Day of Service
Thanks to a partnership between Action for Healthy Kids and CSX Transportation, Battleground Elementary School is one of four schools in the nation that has been chosen to participate in an Every Kid Healthy Day of Service. The event this Saturday 8 - 12:30 is intended to update Battleground facilities to promote a safer, healthier, and more active learning community for students. Volunteers are needed. No specials skills are required and there are opportunities to work on projects both inside and outsidethe building. Anyone 16 or older may participate. Work will include landscaping, light construction, and painting. A light breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided. Blazin' Trails Cowboy Church, 1222 Ponderosa Road (off Startown Road) will hold its 2nd annual Brooke's Roundup event this Saturday 10-2. Oaklawn Community Center Soccer Clinic

Hurricane Relief Luncheon
Marvin United Methodist Church, 2731 Startown Road, will have a Soup and Sandwich Luncheon on Sunday 11:30- 1:30 to raise money for relief efforts in eastern North Carolina. Monetary donations will be accepted to aid a repair team going to Plymouth, NC, in November. For more information call 704-740-5974.

McKendree United Methodist Church, 3537 Maiden Highway, 11:30 - 1. The price is $8 and proceeds benefit outreach programs of the church.
Amazing Race Against Hunger
It starts at Christian Ministries, 207 S. Poplar St., and includes stop at First Federal Park, the Marcia Cloninger Rail Trail at Congress and Motz Avenue, and ends at Betty Ross Park. The event 3 - 5 PM Sunday is to help Christian Ministries raise much needed funds to provide for those less fortunate, especially the LINC Home Delivered Meals program.
