LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Vanessa is an outstanding 7th grader who attends Lincolnton Middle School where she is class President, is a valuable player on the school’s soccer team, basketball team, is a member of the band and is also a peer advocate for organization club where she helps other peers stay organized! She is the daughter of Jhonny and Monique Cespedes.

In recent months Vanessa has become more aware and concerned with the growing number of homeless people in our community. Her concern of them not having the basics was upsetting to her and so she has started a local drive for items to be given out just before Thanksgiving to folks at the Hesed House of Hope.

The Hesed House, according to the director, has 24 individuals currently being sheltered (10 women, 14 men, and 2 of which are youngins’). Vanessa’s goal is to get the basic vital necessities together in care packages and to give them all a box by November 19-20.

Vanessa has placed a donation box at the front lobby of the Lincoln County YMCA. She has so far received many dental hygiene items and bars of soap but she still needs more donations in order to help all 24 residents with items. There is also an information sheet up on the bulletin board with items suitable for donation. If you would like to help with this drive please bring your items to the Donation drop at the YMCA. Donations will be accepted all the way up to November 18.

No donation is too big or too small and all items are appreciated! And most importantly Vanessa wants to remind everyone that all items are going to be donated to LOCAL folks right here in our very own community! And thanks everyone for the kind support without your help this wouldn’t be possible! Thank you!
