In addition to the Veterans Day Parade, downtown Lincolnton will have other events this weekend. On Friday evening from 5 -9 there will be an event called a Culture Crawl. Various art forms will be involved. Some merchants will have artists showing off their works in stores and some of the artists will be on hand, too, both in stores and on the street. There will also be some performing artists providing entertainment for shoppers. The event kicks of the Christmas shopping season with a Holiday Open House at downtown stores that will be open later on Friday and continue with their open house on Saturday.
Saturday's activities include what is called a Chalk Walk. It's an opportunity to express your own artistic abilities by doing artwork on the sidewalks downtown. To participate, you have to register with Mike Payne at GameSwap by 11 AM and you must complete your artwork by 5 PM. For more information, call 704-666-0440.
On Sunday, Holy Cross Lutheran Church will sponsor a Cruise-In from 1 - 5 PM on East Main Street from the Courtsquare to Cedar Street. 1974 and older cars and trucks are invited to participate. Those who want to cruise are asked to make a $2 flag donation. Hamburgers and hot dogs and soft drinks will be available. While the forecast doesn't call for it, should it rain, the event will be held Sunday November 18th.
Some restaurants will be offering special tributes to veterans and currently serving military this weekend. On Monday, Fatz Cafe will offer all veterans and active military a complimentary Calabash Chicken basket with no additional purchase required. Fatz is offering a 25% discount to vets and active military all this month.
Golden Corral (Gastonia, Hickory and Shelby) will honor active military and vets with a free meal Monday 5-9 PM.
There may be others we don't know about. If any restaurant owner or manager would like us to include their Veterans Day offer in this article, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Veterans Advantage website lists other restaurants (many with locations in Gastonia, Shelby or Hickory) with special discounts for vets.
Tractor Supply Company is offering a 15% discount to veterans, active-duty personnel and their dependents at all its locations on Sunday, Nov. 11th.
