Jones County is located in the southeastern part of North Carolina--about 85 miles east-southeast of Raleigh. It's only eight miles from the Atlantic Ocean.

When Hurricane Florence hit the area, two schools--one elementary and one middle school--were completely destroyed. Approximately 400 students were displaced from their former school. Many of the students, some teachers and other staff members of the Jones County Schools lost their homes to the storm.

Lincoln County Schools decided to help.

From October 10th through the 24th, they collected school supplies, filling up a tractor-trailer that was delivered to Jones County by Houser Logistics.

GE Massey raised the most supplies per student (6.5 pounds per student) and WL Middle raised the most poundage with netting over 3,000 lbs. Asbury was third in per student pounds.

Lincoln County Schools also donated furniture that included teacher desks, file cabinets, tables, chairs, and student desks.

All school sites served as collection spots along with the YMCA and the industrial park.

Sometimes students learn more at school than reading, writing and arithmetic. In this case, they learned what it means to be good neighbors.
The schools are currently involved in a  food drive for Christian Ministries,  collecting supplies now through Nov 20th.

The Lincoln County Schools thanks all who contributed to this effort and Sam Houser for making the delivery possible. Your generosity is appreciated by those who really needed your help.

Alps Mtn - New Logo and Times

Back in 2012, the late Larry Dellinger, having spent over half a century in the newspaper business, saw that the times had changed.  People were getting their news from the internet--more and more every day.  That's when he decided to start the Lincoln Herald.

Using the internet made for a number of advantages compared to other media.  Unlike print newspapers, on the internet, articles could be updated as new information became available.  There was no need to wait to publish news in a next day's or next week's edition.  Also, by not having the expense of newsprint (the paper on which newspapers print their news), the news could be offered FREE to readers.  Unlike most newspapers, you can read the articles the Lincoln Herald publishes FREE.  We even post links to all of them on Facebook and Twitter; and when you sign up for our FREE email service, we'll send you an email every day with links to our articles posted since the previous day's email.  That way, you won't miss the latest news, obituaries, sports and other items of interest for Lincoln, Gaston, Catawba and Cleveland counties.

To make sure you get the latest updates, also like our Facebook page at LincolnHerald.net and follow us on Twitter @LincolnHerald20.
