LINCOLNTON, N.C.––The staffers of Lincoln County Senior Services wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving.

Department spokeswoman Darlene Stroupe reminded folks this week that the senior center would be closed for Thanksgiving, Nov. 22 and 23. But be sure to come back this Monday, 11 a.m.-noon, for the monthly wellness clinic.

“A health care professional will be available to take your blood pressure and answer any health care questions you may have,” said Stroupe.

She added that a representative from North Carolina Deaf and Hard of Hearing would be in the conference room for hearing screenings. They’re free, easy and quick.

“The screenings are designed to indicate whether a hearing loss may be present,” said Stroupe. “Hearing screenings are not designed to inform someone of the severity or type of hearing loss they may have. Also, hearing screenings are not for those that already wear hearing aids or have already been diagnosed with a hearing loss.”

Those wishing to have such screenings will need to complete a short form before doing so.

In other senior center news, a beginners’ drawing class will be held Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. The fee is $10.

“Come learn the basics of pencil drawing,” said Stroupe, “including light, shadow, line and form.”

And the center’s annual craft bazaar will be held Dec. 6 and 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. both days, as Stroupe added.

“Come on out and shop for handmade crafts made by our seniors,” she said. “We will also be having a hot dog sale and bake sale during that time. Come get a good hot dog and dessert while shopping for some great handmade goods!

“We hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving,” she continued, “and know we are thankful for each and every one of you!”

Lincoln County Senior Services is co-located with the Lincoln Campus of Gaston College at 514 S. Academy St. in Lincolnton. Call the center at (704) 732-9053 for more information.
