Press Release

HICKORY, N.C. - On December 3, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Exodus Homes will host the 20th annual Christmas Lights Festival at their main campus, 122 8th Ave Dr. SW in Hickory. The faith based United Way agency's outdoor holiday event has become a family friendly tradition in Hickory, everything is free, and it will be held rain or shine.

Exodus Homes' residents have been busy for weeks hanging lights and erecting a special star they built themselves on the rooftop facing east.

This year they have added more lights and inflatables to celebrate their 20th anniversary and the success of their recent capital campaign, making this the biggest Christmas Lights Festival in their history.

The public can stroll around Exodus Homes in the beautiful Christmas lights while enjoying free samples of food from Mountain Fried Chicken, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse, McDonalds, Red Lobster, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's Pizza, Hickory Soup Kitchen, Cooperative Christian Ministry, Pepsi Cola, Publix, and more.

During the event, families can take pictures with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus while the Exodus Missionary Outreach Church Gospel Choir and other local groups perform lively holiday music. Mayor Hank Guess will welcome the crowd and will light the rooftop Christmas tree to begin the festival. Exodus Homes' William Mangum Honor Cards will be on sale during the festival.

Exodus Homes assistant executive director the Rev. Susan Walker has coordinated this festival for many years, but this year she passed the project to Exodus Homes' resident Catie Brown who is also executive assistant of the agency. " It's time that we raise up new leaders who can carry on our traditions and Catie has a passion for community events like this" said Walker. Brown has been working on the festival for six months and is working hard with many other residents of the program who will be in charge of all the fun during the event. "The residents of Exodus Homes are proud of our program and we hope everyone will join us Monday night to celebrate Christmas with us" said Brown.
