ALEXIS, N.C. – Tri-County Animal Rescue has brother and sister Chihuahua mixes, Zoey and Ziggy, as our Pets of the Week. They are around two-years-old and weigh between 15-20 pounds. Zoey has a darker coat of black, tan and white. Ziggy has a beautiful cream and white coat. They get along with other pets but need time to adjust. They are fearful when first meeting new people but come around really quickly. They would make great companions for an older couple. Once they accept you as their people then they give kisses freely. Zoey is spayed. Ziggy is neutered. They are both current on vaccines and micro-chipped. Please come meet these Chihuahua mixes this Saturday.
Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs. They are absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed. Chihuahuas do seem to recognize and prefer their own breed, so it's a great idea to keep two of them. They keep each other company when you're gone, they play together, clean each other's ears, and keep each other warm by snuggling together.
Chihuahuas adore warmth! They will seek out the tiniest sunspot in which to bask, and they tunnel under blankets and towels. You have to be careful whenever you sit down on your sofa or bed, as there could be a Chihuahua tucked under there!
If you want a dog that: is small and easy to carry, comes in several different coats and colors, is oh-so-funny and entertaining in quirky ways, is very loyal, travels well, doesn't need much exercise, LOVES warm sunny climates, usually has a long lifespan….. then a Chihuahua may be right for you!
BIG DOG Pet of the Week
Tri-County Animal Rescue Big Dog Pet of the Week is this Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix named Wally. Wally is 1.5 years old and weighs about 55-65 pounds. He has lots of energy so a fenced yard is a must! Wally loves to play and can go for hours. He is the sweetest dog that loves kisses. Wally thinks he is a small dog and will curl up on your lap if possible. He has a short Aussie tail that wags non-stop. Wally is neutered, current on vaccines and micro-chipped. He will be looking for you this weekend!
This is an athletic dog of medium/large size and bone; it is lithe, agile and slightly longer than it is tall. Its gait is free and easy, and it must be able to change direction or speed instantly. It has a beautiful coat with medium texture and length, straight to wavy. Frequent brushing, warm baths and thorough blow drying will help keep the hair under control. The expression is keen, intelligent and eager.
The Australian shepherd has a great deal of stamina and is loving, bold, alert, confident, independent, smart and responsive. If it doesn't get a chance to exercise and challenge its strongly developed mental and physical activities, it is apt to become frustrated and difficult to live with. With proper exercise and training, it is a loyal, utterly devoted and obedient companion. It is reserved with strangers and has a protective nature. It may try to herd children and small animals by nipping.
Please come out to our adoption event this weekend. If you are looking for an addition to your family, please come out and meet our pets this weekend. We have many available pets at the Gastonia PetSmart located at 3698 East Franklin Boulevard this Saturday noon to 6 p.m.
