LINCOLNTON, N.C.––The Lincolnton High School Drama Club will present Sister Act as its spring musical.
According to the drama club, the Lincoln Cultural Center, located at 403 E. Main St. in uptown Lincolnton, is the place to be for the upcoming three performances of the hit show on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. both nights. A matinée performance will be held on Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 each for students and $10 for adults and senior citizens.
Sister Act’s music is by noted composer Alan Menken. The lyrics are by Glenn Slater, and the book is by the veteran husband-and-wife comedy-writing team of Bill and Cheri Steinkellner.
The musical is based upon the hit 1992 Whoopi Goldberg film of the same name. The musical had its début in Pasadena, 13 years ago. It first came to London’s West End 10 years ago this summer. It has in the ensuing years been performed to wide acclaim all over the world.
The story concerns Deloris, a singing mob moll, who witnesses her gangster boyfriend commit a murder. Summarily taken into the witness protection program, she is hidden in a convent in California, where she soon finds herself singing in a choir of nuns.
