Enter to win 'My Catawba County' Photo Contest

Catawba County Library
Press Release

NEWTON, N.C. – The library is inviting all photographers, both amateur and professional, to submit their best photo to the Catawba County Photo contest this month. The theme is designed to highlight what’s great about Catawba County and to showcase how residents are #makinglivingbetter. The contest is the latest program in the Arts @ the Library initiative, which seeks to make art more accessible through local libraries providing wider access to the community’s rich arts and culture scene.

Collaborative services librarian Erica Derr is coordinating the contest with library services specialist Lindsay Robins. Derr is looking forward to seeing what people submit. “There are so many great things about Catawba County and it will be interesting to see how people interpret the ‘My Catawba County’ theme and share what inspires them and makes them proud to be residents.”

Photographs will first be judged by a juried panel to award a Juror’s Award, then Library Director, Suzanne White will bestow a Director’s Award and attendees to the May 9th Photo Contest Reception will be able to vote for their favorite photo for the People’s Choice Award.

The winning photographs will be recognized in an upcoming edition of the Library’s monthly newsletter, will be displayed throughout the Catawba County Library’s locations, and may be included in local press coverage. The first-place award winner may be displayed for the month of June in Catawba County’s Government Center building. Submitted photos may also be chosen for Catawba County marketing efforts, such as the county website, social media platforms, and printed materials. Each winner will receive an award certificate, a mention on social media, and a copy of the book Newton: Then & Now by Sylvia Ray, Richard Eller, and Clayton Joe Young.

Each artist may submit up to two works, which should be hand-delivered to the Main Library in Newton (115 West C Street). Photographs must be prints, framed and wired for hanging, and they should measure no more than 36 inches on any given side. Any photographer is eligible to enter the contest. The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.
