Stroupe added that refreshments and hors d’oeuvres would be served. The meeting is free and open to the public.
So how does a group respite program work? Well, if you’re spending some 40 hours a week caring for your loved one, you could likely use four to six hours a day for yourself, right? Errands and other matters do come up, and after all, you need a break.
That’s where the respite program comes in. As Stroupe informed, it presents a low-cost, safe and secure environment for older adults, 60 years of age and up, who may suffer from dementia or other such maladies yet can still walk, feed themselves and use the toilet.
The Lincoln County Senior Center is co-located with the Lincoln County Campus of Gaston College at 514 S. Academy St. in Lincolnton (site of the former Lincolnton Senior and Junior high schools).
Stroupe reminds you that you can learn more––or you may respond to confirm your attendance––by calling the senior center at (704) 732-9053.
