MONDAY April 29th

McHenry staffer holding office hours in Lincolnton
Congressman Patrick McHenry’s staff will hold office hours in Lincolnton from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Citizens Center, 115 West Main Street.  Will Bowen will be available to meet with constituents who have issues with federal agencies including Social Security, veterans affairs, and immigration. He will also be there to listen to any concerns that constituents have with federal policy or pending legislation before Congress. Bowen will then relay these concerns to Congressman McHenry. McHenry maintains district offices in Gastonia, Hickory and Black Mountain.

Children's Book Week
2019 marks the 100th birthday of Children's Book Week.  The Lincoln County Public Library will have several events this week for children. On Monday & Tuesday, the Shanklin Library at Denver will have Pre-School Storytime from 10:30 -11:30; Pre-School Storytime will happen all day at the Jonas Library in Lincolnton on Wednesday, and from 10:30 - 11:30 Thursday at the West Lincoln branch. Baby Storytime for babies under 18 months will be held 10:30 - 11:30 Wednesday at the Shanklin Library and Toddler Storytime (ages 2-3) wll be held 10:30 - 11:30 Thursday at the Jonas Library.

The Catawba County Library has events scheduled at the Main Library in Newton and at the St. Stephens branch.

The Main Library in Newton will feature a family storytime at 4:30 Monday, followed by snacks and a session to make bookmarks. Participants will also have the chance to cast their votes for favorite book among the finalists for the 2019 Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards.

The St. Stephens Branch Library will honor Children’s Book Week with a special bilingual storytime at 6 pm Tuesday. A craft workshop and light refreshments will follow. Attendees there will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite children’s book.

Group Respite Town Hall Meeting
A town hall meeting for group respite in Lincoln County will be held Tuesday beginning at 6 PM in the multipurpose room at Lincoln County Senior Services, 514 S. Academy St. in Lincolnton. For more information, contact Christina Joyce at 704-637-3940 or Lauren Vordenberg at 704-736-8811.

Jason Harpe’s “Thank You Reception” for LCHA Members
The Lincoln County Historical Association will host a reception Tuesday 6:30 - 8:30 PM @ Lincoln Country Club honoring Jason Harpe, who after 22 plus years has retired as Executive Director.  The event will also feature a raffle for the chance to purchase a Charlie Lisk commemorative face jug. The event is free to all current members of the LCHA with heavy hors d'oeuvres provided. You must be a current LCHA member to attend the reception.

ELBA Community Meeting
The East Lincoln Betterment Association will hold a community meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30 at the East Lincoln Community Center on Optimist Club Road to discuss growth in the East Lincoln area, especially as it relates to response times of emergency responders.  The public is invited to attend.


Main Street Meet Up
Downtown merchants and others who have an interest in downtown Lincolnton are invited to gather at Faustos Coffee on the northeast Courtsquare at 8 AM for an open dialog about downtown. Information will be provided about upcoming events including Saturday's Food, Wine & Brew Fest, this year's Alive After Five events (which begins Thursday May 30th with the Catalinas), and other downtown happenings.

Seussical Kids 
GE Massey Elementary School will present SEUSSICAL KIDS on Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. Come out and have a good time with these hardworking students as they entertain the community. Admission is by donation. The school is located at 130 Newbold St., Lincolnton, NC 28092.


National Day of Prayer Events
Sally's YMCA will host a National Day of Prayer Breakfast at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church, 4640 Webbs Chapel Church Road, Denver, beginning at 6:45 AM. The PrayerService starts at 7:30 AM with speaker  Coach Eddie Payne, a longtime head men’s basketball coach for USC Upstate University. Pre-registration is required at 704-716-4522.

At 6 PM Thursday evening, Pastor Joey Williams of Daystar Church and Bishop Franklin Lowery of Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church will lead a prayer service at the outdoor chapel across the road from the Lincoln County Family YMCA. Special music will be provided by the Unity Choir.  The evening event is FREE and open to the community, no reservations required.

Fiesta Time (Belmont)
The Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce will hold an after-work networking event Thursday May 2nd from 5:30 - 7 PM at Riverside Marina, 1500 River Drive in Belmont. This pre-Cinco de Mayo event for members and guests will be a great opportunity to get to know others in business, industry and professional positions in the Montcross area. Cost is $15 for Montcross Area Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Advance reservations are required. FRIDAY May 3rd

City Lunch Remembrance Celebration
The fourth annual event in remembrance of Donnie Goodson has been expanded this year and changed to a fund-raiser in memory of Donnie and of Brian Greer. Donnie Goodson enjoyed eating at City Lunch, especially on “fried chicken day.” It was not just the food that kept him coming back, it was the people, both staff & customers. He considered them all his friends. This year, the event Friday 11 AM - 2 PM will offer a chance to say thank you to the Greer Family and celebrate two men whose lives impacted our community. The Davis and Goodson families will make a donation to the Greer family and urges others to do likewise during this celebration.

South Fork Fire Department Hot Dog Sale
The South Fork Fire Department will host a hot dog sale beginning at 11 AM Friday at the fire station just off the Gastonia Highway. Get two hot dogs, chips, dessert & drink for $5, or enjoy a Firehouse Dog for just a dollar. Call-in orders start at 9:00 am Friday at 704-735-3446

Bourbon, Beer & BBQ (Conover)
The Greater Hickory Jaycees will sponsor this event 6 - 11 PM at Conover Station, 403 Conover Station SE, Conover. A $25 ticket includes bourbon & moonshine tasting and a beer token. Additional beer & BBQ will be available for purchase. Music will be provided by Tony Bailey & Chad Triplett & Two Lane Blacktop.

Music on Main (Mooresville)
Fans of Beach Music don't have to wait until the end of the month for concerts in Bessemer City (May 25th-Blackwater Rhythm & Blues Band) and Lincolnton (Alive After Five-May 30th).  The Catalinas, who will kick off Lincolnton's summer concert series, will be in Mooresville this Friday evening 6:30 - 9:30 for Music on Main.


North Lincoln High School iKnight Technology Yard Sale
The event begins at 6 AM at the school on Lee Lawing Road. Items will be for sale with proceeds going to the PTO, or you can rent a space (8' x 16') for $10 and sell items yourself. The deadline for reserving a space is Thursday (May 2nd).

Rummage Sale
The Lincoln Cultural Center at 403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton will have a rummage sale beginning at 8 AM Saturday and continuing during the Food, Wine & Brew Fest.

Open Horse Show at the Ponderosa
The Lincoln County Horseman's Association will sponsor an open horse show 9:30 AM until 9 PM Saturday at the Ponderosa off Startown Road.  

NAACP Meeting
The Lincoln County Unit of the NAACP will meet Saturday at 10 AM at Providence Missionary Baptist Church at the corner of E. Pine St. & Hollybrook Ave.

Spring Art at the Farm (Hickory)
The 21st annual Spring Art at the Farm will be held at the Farm, 5726 Grace Chapel Road in Hickory, Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM. Enjoy music by Mike Willis and Neal Davenport 10:30 to 1:30 and Kevin Lee Smith 2:00 to 4:00. Crafted items on sale will include pottery, wearable metal art, quilted items, glass art, soaps, oil paintings, wooden utensils and cutting boards, stone and recycled metal sculpture, and more. Safe Kids Day
The 3rd annual Safe Kids Day will be held Saturday beginning at 10 AM at the Lincoln County Family YMCA. Information will be available on gun safety, bike safety, child safety seats, water safety and more. Admission is FREE.

Springfest (Mt. Holly)
Mt. Holly will hold its annual Springfest festival Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM in downtown Mt. Holly with food, music, games, etc.

Fashion Show
The 2nd annual Spring Fashion Show featuring garments and accessories Amy's Closet Boutique has received through donations will be held at 10 AM Saturday at the Lincoln Cultural Center.  They will also have brunch available and will be auctioning off designer purses and handbags they've received. Admission is $15 (cash or check only).  Proceeds will benefit Amy's Closet (Lincolnton & Denver), whose ultimjate aim is to help survivors of domestic violence begin new lives.

Lincolnton Food, Wine & Brew Fest
The annual Food, Wine & Brew Fest happens 11 AM - 5 PM Saturday in downtown Lincolnton. The festival features food trucks, regional craft wineries and breweries, entertainment, artists, and a farmer's market. Wine-tasting tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the event. CLICK HERE for more information.

Star Wars Day (Huntersville)
"May the Fourth Be With You" as Discovery Place-Kids, 105 Gilead Road in Huntersville, holds a Star Wars Day beginning at 11:15 AM.

13th annual First Federal Savings Price is Right 
The Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and Child Advocacy Center will host the 13th annual Price is Right fundraising event Saturday 5 - 9 PM at the Citizens Center, 115 W. Main St. in Lincolnton. Those attending pay $10 for a ticket which grants them the chance to be "called on down" where they compete to win prize packages. This event also has a silent auction with amazing baskets, event tickets, household items and more. Tickets can be purchased at door the day of the event or call 704-736-1155 for more information.

MAESTRO CHALLENGE: An Evening of John Williams (Hickory)
The new Western Piedmont Symphony Music Director & Conductor will be revealed at "May the Fourth Be With You!" This special concert event will begin at 7:30 PM Saturday at the L.P. Franz Hickory Crawdads Stadium, 2500 Clement Blvd NW, Hickory. Beatles vs Stones (Charlotte)
It's a musical showdown of the hits. “Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown” returns to the McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square, 345 North College Street in Charlotte Saturday at 8 PM. Cinco de Mayo Adoption Event
Lincoln County Animal Services, 650 John Howell Memorial Drive, Lincolnton, will hold a special adoption event Sunday 12 noon - 3 PM, offering $5 adoption fees for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.  For more information, call 704-736-4125.

Orquestra Mayor concert
The Lincoln County Concert Association will present the final concert in its 2018-2019 series this Sunday afternoon (May 5th) at 3 PM at the James W. Warren Citizens Center.  Admission is $20, $5 for students, but area dance students will be admitted FREE to this performance.  Also, the Concert Association is now conducting its membership drive for 2019-2020, and anyone who buys a membership ($50) for the four concerts of 2019-2020 will also be admitted at no additional charge to this Sunday's your membership provides a reciprocal agreement which will give you admission to Concert Assn. events in Gastonia, Statesville and Albermarle.
