ALEXIS, N.C. – Tri-County Animal Rescue Pet of the Week is four very active Chihuahua/Beagle mixed puppies.  Are you ready for some puppy breath?  Then come on out this weekend and get a big dose of puppy love!  They are 10 weeks old.  We have four males.  The babies have short hair so grooming is very simple…bath and brushing.  They will be small as adults.  They have had two puppy vaccines, neutered, several de-wormings and micro-chipped.  Come on out…we will be looking for you.

Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs. They are absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed.  Chihuahuas do seem to recognize and prefer their own breed, so it's a great idea to keep two of them. They keep each other company when you're gone, they play together, clean each other's ears (Chihuahuas can be obsessive ear-lickers!), and keep each other warm by snuggling together.

Chihuahuas adore warmth! They will seek out the tiniest sunspot in which to bask, and they tunnel under blankets and towels. You have to be careful whenever you sit down on your sofa or bed, as there could be a Chihuahua tucked under there!

If you want a dog that: is small and easy to carry, comes in several different coats and colors, is oh-so-funny and entertaining in quirky ways, is very loyal, travels well, doesn't need much exercise, LOVES warm sunny climates, usually has a long lifespan…..then a Chihuahua may be right for you!

BIG DOG Pet of the Week

Our featured pet for this week is a Shih Tzu mix named Misty.  She is 1 ½ years old and weighs 13 pounds.  Misty should not get any bigger.  She has beautiful long silky hair which will need grooming several times a year.  Misty is good with other dogs and loves all people.  She is a beautiful little girl that loves to be snuggled.  Misty is current on vaccines, micro-chipped, spayed and heartworm negative.

The Shih Tzu mix has long been a popular designer breed. Known for its adorable roundish face, this hybrid originated in the United States and is known to be quietly affectionate. Some of you might have a preference for certain colors when it comes to dogs and you’d be glad to know that the Shih Tzu mix does come in a variety of colors, including black, brown, cream or white, or a combination of those. Many dog lovers have a weakness for its adorable cute, floppy ears if it takes after its Shih Tzu parent.  In addition, because of their adaptability and size, they also make good apartment dogs. Just remember though, some owners describe the Shih Tzu as a shy character if not properly given the chance to socialize and mingle with other humans or dogs. So take a walk in the park, and this way you’ll both get the exercise and interaction you need.

Please stop in to visit the pets this weekend at PetSmart in Gastonia because the dogs and cats love the attention.  They will be looking for you so come on out for some family fun.  We also have other pets available for adoption at the Gastonia PetSmart located at 3698 East Franklin Boulevard.  Tri-County Animal Rescue will be available Saturday noon to 6 p.m.  Don’t forget!
