Superhero Run To Support Meals On Wheels

Lincoln Herald Staff

Catawba County Senior Nutrition Services is holding its inaugural Superhero Run this Saturday (May 11th) at Conover Park, 361 5th Avenue SE within the Conover Station development and next door to the Conover Branch Library. Proceeds from this event will help support Meals on Wheels and Seniors Morning Out programs. A Fun Run for children starts at 8:30 AM and the 5k begins at 9 AM. You can walk or run, just come out and have fun supporting a great cause. Each registered participant will receive a voucher for free food to use post-race at on-site food trucks.

RunTimeRaces, known for well-run and organized races in Catawba County and surrounding areas, is producing this race. To register for the Superhero Run, please visit the RunTimeRaces website at

Senior Nutrition Services provides Meals on Wheels and Seniors Morning Out programs to seniors who are 60 years old or older in Catawba County. The programs serve approximately 500 seniors each operating day. Nearly 40% of the seniors served are living at or below the poverty level and 47% live alone. The programs help seniors facing challenges of hunger, isolation and poverty.

Seniors Morning Out and Meals on Wheels are much more than a nutritious meal. These programs are a social connection and a safety check for seniors. Surveyed seniors report that Meals on Wheels helps them remain in their homes and having meals delivered to their homes improves their mood. It only costs $22 to feed a senior for a week and a little over $1,000 to feed a senior for an entire year.

If you would like to know more about the programs or if you are interested learning more about volunteer opportunities, call 828-695-5610; and don't be surprised if you are at Conover Park this Saturday and see Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and a plethora of other superheroes running for a good cause.
