Would You Consider Becoming A Partner In FAM?

Lincoln County Social Services
Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. Did you know that there are over 115 children who are in the custody of the Lincoln County Department of Social Services due to abuse or neglect?  Over the past 3 years, this number has increased by 30%.  While this increase can be directly attributed to the drug crisis in our county, the increase has created another crisis, a lack of foster families to care for these children.  Due to rising numbers, 32% of the agency’s children placed in family foster care are located outside of Lincoln County.  Children placed outside of Lincoln County are not able to remain in their school, lose friendships, and all things familiar about their home and community.  Adjusting to these changes can be difficult for an adult.  Imagine what distress this could cause for a child already experiencing trauma through abuse or neglect.

In an effort to keep our children in their home communities, the Lincoln County Department of Social Services has launched a recruitment campaign in hopes of raising awareness to this growing problem and increasing the number of foster homes within Lincoln County.  We recognize that not everyone can become a foster parent, but believe that everyone can do something to support foster parents and/or the foster care program in Lincoln County.  Would you consider becoming a partner in our Foster Adopt Movement?

How can the Community partner with FAM?

  • Become a foster parent
  • Provide gift cards (Walmart, Target, grocery, local restaurant) to foster families
  • Write cards of encouragement to foster families
  • Donate diapers/wipes for local children in need
  • Purchase car seats (any style) for agency and foster parent use
