LINCOLNTON, NC. - More than 250 athletes took part in the annual Lincoln County Special Olympics Spring Games Friday, May 3 at the Lincolnton High School football stadium.
From the lighting of the torch, the parade of athletes, the games, the fun games, dancing and face painting everyone enjoyed them all. These special athletes are unique and talented in their own way and each had a chance to participate and show off their skills.
We hope these photos we are sharing with our readers that were taken by Lincoln County Board of Education member Kirk Herbertson, a former Special Olympics athlete himself who has Asperger's Syndrome, helps to preserve some of the joy of that day. Kirk will tell you himself that one's focus should be on his or her abilities and not disabilities.
