ALEXIS, N.C. – Tri-County Animal Rescue Pet of the Week is two beautiful Chihuahua/Terrier mix sisters named Sugar and Laika. These girls are 5-months-old and weigh under 10 pounds. Sugar has a dark chocolate coat and Laika is tan/white. The grooming for both is very simple…bath and brushing. They will stay small as adults. Both girls are spayed, current on vaccines and micro-chipped. Come on out…we will be looking for you.
Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs. They are absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed. Chihuahuas do seem to recognize and prefer their own breed, so it's a great idea to keep two of them. They keep each other company when you're gone, they play together, clean each other's ears (Chihuahuas can be obsessive ear-lickers!), and keep each other warm by snuggling together.
Chihuahuas adore warmth! They will seek out the tiniest sunspot in which to bask, and they tunnel under blankets and towels. You have to be careful whenever you sit down on your sofa or bed, as there could be a Chihuahua tucked under there!
If you want a dog that: is small and easy to carry, comes in several different coats and colors, is oh-so-funny and entertaining in quirky ways, is very loyal, travels well, doesn't need much exercise, LOVES warm sunny climates, usually has a long lifespan…..then a Chihuahua may be right for you!
BIG DOG PET OF THE WEEK
Tri-County Animal Rescue BIG DOG Pet of the Week is this Australian Shepherd mix named Barney. He is 7-years-old. Barney weighs about 60 pounds. He just had a dental so his smile sparkles. Barney is good with everyone including other pets. If you need an older boy around the house…come on out Saturday and get Barney. Barney is neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. He will be looking for you this weekend!
The Australian shepherd has a great deal of stamina and is loving, bold, alert, confident, independent, smart and responsive. If it doesn't get a chance to exercise and challenge its strongly developed mental and physical activities, it is apt to become frustrated and difficult to live with. With proper exercise and training, it is a loyal, utterly devoted and obedient companion. It is reserved with strangers and has a protective nature. It may try to herd children and small animals by nipping.
Moderate Shedding: The Aussie sheds, but it’s a major event only twice a year, in the spring and fall. Frequent brushing, warm baths and thorough blow drying during that time will help keep the handfuls of hair under control. Outside of shedding season, bathe the Aussie only when he gets dirty.
Please come out to our adoption event this weekend. If you are looking for an addition to your family, please come out and meet our pets this weekend. We have many available pets at the Gastonia PetSmart located at 3698 East Franklin Boulevard this Saturday noon to 6 p.m.
Tenley Ritchie celebrated her 7th birthday recently. She adopted a pet last year for her birthday and now wants to give back to Tri-County Animal Rescue. Tenley decided to give gifts to the cats and dogs at the rescue for her birthday. She collected dog and cat food, cat litter and other items so badly needed. Tenley goes to Belmont Central 2nd grade. Everyone at Tri-County Rescue wants to give Tenley a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout-out!!! Thanks Tenley!
