The Lincoln County Board of Education held committee meetings and a special called session Tuesday evening.
During the special session to approve personnel matters, the Board approved Dr. Nathan (Nate) McLean to succeed Brian Clary as principal at West Lincoln High School. Dr. McLean started his educational career at Newton-Conover High School as a Science teacher for six years, then served as an assistant principal at both North Lincoln High and West Lincoln High for five years until 2017. Most recently he has served as the Coordinator of Special Education Auxiliary Services for Catawba County Schools.
Supt. Dr. Lory Morrow said “It is a great thing to have Nate back in Lincoln County Schools. His leadership, technology skills, attention to detail, and passion for students will be welcomed as he returns to West Lincoln. Some of the students will remember him from his previous role there and pick up right where Mr. Clary has left off.” Clary was recently promoted to Chief of Human Resources.
Dr. McLean was awarded his doctorate from UNC-Charlotte in 2018 with his research focused on grading practices in core content areas. He is originally from Michigan but now lives in Catawba County. He will start his new position no later than May 4th. During the interim, Teresa Hays will be the interim principal at West incoln High. Mrs. Hays is a retired principal from Iredell County Schools, most recently at North Iredell High. She will begin her duties on March 23rd.
At North Lincoln Middle School, Donald Welch will serve as the acting interim principal during Kqisha Dagenhart’s maternity leave. Welch is currently serving as the Transportation Coordinator for Lincoln County Schools and has served as a tenured school administrator and teacher.
