LINCOLNTON - LA, Angelo Smith II, recently held an open house for his newly opened art business. Creating art is nothing new for LA. He started back in 2014 at UMAR art in downtown Lincolnton. After five years there he decided to try to venture out on his own.
March 12, 2015 is when he first displayed his art work at Fausto's Coffee and thought March 12, 2020 was a fitting time to officially open his own business.
In addition to creating custom pieces, LA has started making custom jewelry and has a calendar which includes digital art images he designed using his Ipad. The calendars are $10. He will create pieces upon request.
LA posted a video of him creating an abstract wheelchair piece. This is a unique process where he removes the canvas and rolls over it with his wheelchair to create a design.
LA's designs all of his artwork associated with music because he believes "music is a unique sound of incredible creativity." You can find his signature design somewhere on all of his work. He also has cups which have his signature as a decal.
I have a piece from his first exhibit, a custom college piece which is a mixed media piece and now a piece of jewelry. My oldest son picked out two smaller art pieces. These make great gifts and range in prices as low as $3. They aren't just great artwork - they have a beautiful story.
In his business he has an artist bio hanging which reads: "My name is Angelo Smith II. I am 26 years old and I was born with a birth defect called Spina Bifida. Because of this birth defect, my hands don't work like a "normal persons" hands work. I wear a glove that helps me hold a paint brush, pens, pencil, etc. I manage things pretty well. I'm thankful to God. I'm an entrepreneur, acrylic painter, visual arts and commission artist. I use musical elements into most of my paintings. I've also designed jewelry using paper beads, clay pendants and guitar picks. I created a short film of a poem that I wrote entitled, "My Smile."
