LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The COVED-19 can’t stop Lincoln County 4-H and our Summer Fun Program! Even though we can’t meet face-to-face or have hands-on training, our youth can still participate in a unique summer learning experience.

4-H Agent, Abigail Isom, and Program Assistant, Ahmani Pegues, have created a virtual summer program for youth interested in learning how to grow their own vegetables. This 12-week program will be held each Wednesday from May 13, through July 29, 2020.

Youth will track their progress with the logs and information sheets provided in the planting kits and each Wednesday, Abigail and other Extension Agents, will share an online video / class with participants from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Each specialist will share important information about soil, insects, fertilizer, weeds and even how to pick and prepare the vegetables! Nothing like a meal prepared right from your own garden!

Special garden planting kits will be available for pick up at several locations around the county. The kits include everything needed, including plants and seeds to plant, cultivate, measure and track the growth of your vegetable beds.

While maintaining social distancing, several organizations have allowed Ms. Abigail to distribute the 4-H Garden Kits at their businesses. Interested youth/families may pick up one kit per family; first-come-first-served (the program is limited to 20 participants/families), complete the short information form attached to the kit and place it in the Summer Fun Information Box on the table.
