Lopez-Saldivar anticipated that serving on the SGA executive board would allow her to develop leadership skills. But she gained much more through the experience. She has learned “the meaning of friendship and teamwork,” as she informed.
“We became a support system for one another,” she added, “and the bonds that we created have helped us grow not only as leaders but also as individuals. I have learned a lot from my peers. They have inspired me to always reach for the stars and beyond.”
After earning a bachelor’s degree at UNCC, Lopez-Saldivar plans to work toward a master’s degree in counseling.
“I would love to work with high school or college students to help them navigate through difficult times,” she said. “I want to be able to provide information and support for people who may need someone to encourage them.”
Pickett continued that the Gaston College SGA is known as the voice of the students. All students are welcomed to attend SGA meetings and voice their opinions.
