It's Spring Sweep Time

Wayne Howard

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) statewide Spring Litter Sweep is underway.  It began Saturday (April 10th) and will continue through April 24th.

Different communities across the state are holding their local pickup, cleanup campaigns on different days.  Keep Catawba County Beautiful is joining in the Litter Sweep, the twice a year effort by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Volunteers are urged to help beautify their community by removing litter from along roadways.

One community effort is an event  hosted by the City of Conover.

Conover’s event will be held this Saturday (April 17th) at Conover City Park,  361 5th Avenue SE in Conover, from 9 AM until noon.  Volunteers are asked to meet at the park’s shelter between 8:30-9:00 AM to pick up supplies and a map. While they are asking residents to come together as a community, they remind everyone to practice social distancing during this time to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. For more information or to register for this event, call Courtney Kennedy at 828-464-1191.

Volunteers can participate as individuals or organize as teams to assist with litter removal activities.  To learn more about NCDOT's statewide Spring Litter Sweep, get bags for litter collection, etc., call your local DOT office. The Catawba County DOT office is at 828-468-6280.

Keep Catawba County Beautiful is the local chapter of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., a nonprofit organization promoting responsible behavior regarding littering, recycling, solid waste management and beautification. To learn more about the chapter and its activities, call Executive Director Ariel Kanupp at 828-465-8217.
