Art Crawl Kicks Off Weekend

Wayne Howard
Reporter

With all the restrictions essentially lifted, most people are eager to return to community events that got canceled over the last year. The return to 'normal' continues this weekend as downtown Lincolnton holds an Art Crawl Friday evening. Organized by the Arts Council of Lincoln County, the Downtown Development Association, and the Lincoln Cultural Center, the arts event, scheduled for 5 - 9 PM, will feature both visual and performance art, hosted by downtown businesses as well as on the lawn of the Courthouse.

The evening out (after months staying at home for many) will be followed on Saturday by more fun. The Lincolnton Student Advisory Council will hold what is called a Color Run, although it's not an officially timed event, so you can walk or run as you choose on the course, which begins and ends at Betty Ross Park on S. Madison Street. If you want to participate, there's a $15 entry fee, with all proceeds going to a Student Memorial.

Participants are encouraged to wear a white t-shirt and protective eyewear. Color powder will be thrown at every mile. Stickers will also be available for $3. To register, visit https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSes2PXVyfgKVNPpi9Lkm7LY233QiH84qUyMdY4WvH4M-vnjrw/viewform?gxids=7628. The event begins at 10 AM. Questions? Call Ashlynn Eurey at 980-241-7273 or email her: ashlynneurey@icloud.com.

Also happening Saturday is a Chalk the Walk event. Starting at 9 AM and lasting all day (until 5 PM), the Arts Council Chalk the Walk has both an adult and youth division. Each artist or team will have a space assigned to them. Check-in begins at 9 AM and 'artists' must check in by 10 AM to participate. Youth artists must have a parent or guardian approval to participate. The 'works of art' must be completed by 5 PM. Only water-based chalk can be used. There is a $5 per person or group (working on a single location) entry fee.

Other events this weekend include a Community Cookout at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, 4 - 7 PM Saturday; and a Blended in Denver event with food trucks and other vendors on Commerce Drive Saturday 10 AM - 2 PM.
