Gaston College is among the best. That’s the word this week from college spokeswoman Linda Vespa. Gaston College was recently ranked by the website at www.intelligent.com as among the best community colleges in America for its internet-based class offerings.
As Vespa explained, www.intelligent.com, a Seattle-based resource for internet-based degree rankings and higher education planning, analyzed 286 schools and 333 education programs. Only 59 schools made it to the final list. Gaston College was recognized as the best school for accelerated classes, and it ranked 38th overall when the results were released earlier this month.
All of the schools that were assessed are regionally accredited, and the schools’ internet-based offerings were evaluated based on cost, flexibility, reputation and faculty. In its report on the rankings, the website extolled Gaston College as a good value; and although its internet-based offerings increased due to last year’s state-imposed virus-related restrictions, the school’s internet curriculum has been highly successful, effective and popular with students, according to vice president for academic affairs Dr. Heather Woodson.
“We are so pleased that the college has been recognized for its work,” Woodson said of the internet courses. “Gaston College was an early adopter of distance learning and continues to strive for excellence in (internet-based) education. The institution has adopted quality standards for all courses and provides exceptional professional development opportunities for instructors to increase their skills.”
