The Lincoln County Senior Center is inviting you to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

That’s the word this week from senior center spokeswoman Lauren Heavner. Also the center’s SHIIP co-ordinator, Heavner said the public is invited to the center on Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. to “paint the pumpkin purple.”

“Join us as we bring awareness to Alzheimer’s and other dementias by painting pumpkins,” she said. “We will also be writing letters to our elected officials, advocating for continued funding for Alzheimer’s disease research. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association while at the event!

“More than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease,” she continued, adding that at the event, you can “find out ways you can support others that are living with or caring for someone with this diagnosis.”

The senior center has much to offer, including caregiving support/in-home services; information/assistance; a nutrition voucher program; transportation; the SHIIP (or Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program); bingo; cornhole practice; yoga and tai chi classes; a monthly wellness clinic; craft classes; cardio dance; exercise class; low-intensity exercises; Sassy Classy Seniors; spades; bridge; mah jong; canasta and more.

Heavner encourages you to reserve your spot for the pumpkin-painting event today by calling the senior center at (704) 732-9053.

Lincoln County Senior Services is located at 612 Center Drive in Lincolnton.
