Every year for 14 years on the second Saturday in May and September, North 321 VFD holds their community yard sale. Turnout for the event is somewhere in the thousands said Dwight Hoyle, Assistant Chief.
People wanting to participate pay only $8 for one of the 120 available spaces. Hoyle stated that all spaces are usually rented out, but sometimes there are “no-shows” on event day. Only once in its 14 year history has the event been rained out completely.
The department consists of 37 volunteer firefighters and 6 junior firefighters, most of who were on hand whether directing traffic, riding around the grounds in golf carts or in the firehouse cooking and serving food.
Hoyle explained that the proceeds from the event go to buying training supplies and feeding firefighters who may be out on a call at mealtime. The 321 North VFD also uses the proceeds to help two families in need at Christmas time. He said that they couldn't have such a successful event without the support of the local community.
