LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Many events took place on Sunday and Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Lincoln Herald’s Staff Photographer, Kirk Herbertson, took some photos at the events that we are sharing in our Photo Gallery.

Events covered were:

  • Lincoln County Unit of the NAACP Memorial Service at the Lincoln Cultural Center on Sunday, January 17. (Photos 2-6 in Gallery)
  • MLK Breakfast at the Lincoln Cultural Center on Monday, January 18  at 8:30 a.m. with guest speaker Lester Williams and remarks from Lincolnton Mayor Ed Hatley and County Commissioner Chair Cecelia Martin. (Photos 7-17 in Gallery)
  • MLK Youth Program on Monday, January 18 at 11 a.m., also at the Lincoln Cultural Center, with guest speaker Eugene Brown. The MLK Essay winners were presented, along with talent by youth from the community. (Photos 18-31 in Gallery)
  • March to the Lincoln County Court House on Monday, January 18. The line-up began about 2:30 p.m. in the 5/3 Bank parking lot with the march getting underway at 3 p.m. The West Lincoln High School Band led all the participants to the Court House for the program. (Photos 32-53 in Gallery)
