Exhibitors from all over the southeast will convene in Dallas this weekend for Cotton Ginning Days. One of the highlights of the festival is the operational 1900 single-stand, Continental Cotton Gin a that will be in operation ginning cotton all weekend long.  In addition to the engine show, many activities are planned including a Kids County Fair, heritage arts area, craft vendors and entertainment.  The event is sponsored by the Gaston County Parks & Recreation Department and is held at the Gaston County Park, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway.

Cotton Ginning Days opens Friday 10 AM - 5 PM, continues Saturday 9 - 5 and Sunday 10 - 5 (following a 9 AM worship service).  The carnival rides will operate Saturday 9 - 5 and Sunday 12 - 5.  Entertainment will start Friday morning at 10:30 with the W.C. Friday Jazz Band.  The movie "Hocus Pocus" will be shown Friday night on the main event stage.  Entertainment is also planned for all day Saturday and Sunday.  Admission to the event and parking is free.

The East Lincoln Historical Society will also be talking cotton at their Harvest Celebration  Saturday 8:30 - 1 at the Mundy House on NC16-Business North in Denver.

This is also the weekend for Oktoberfest in downtown Hickory (Friday 5 - 11 PM, Saturday 10 AM - 11 PM, Sunday noon - 5 PM). 

Friday evening at 6:30 the Arts Council and Lincoln Cultural Center will co-sponsor a performance by the Western Piedmont Symphony.  The event won't be at the Cultural Center; it will be at the James W. Warren Citizens Center.

  • Love Memorial School's annual Craft Fair Saturday 9 - 3 at the school
  • The musical "Smoke on the Mountain" Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7 and Sunday afternoon at 3 at the Lincoln Cultural Center
  • The Downtown Development Association's Lincolnton Antique & Vintage Market Day Saturday 10- 5
  • Dallas Ghost Tours at the Gaston County Museum of Arts & History in Dallas Friday 7 - 9 PM (reservations required, contact Alex Brooks at
  • The Driven by Grace Biker Ministry Bike, Car & Truck Show 10 - 2 Saturday at the Lincolnton Church of God
  • The Carolina Classic High School Marching Band Competition 9 - 11 Saturday at East Lincoln High School
  • A Community Fun Day 11 - 3 Saturday at the Rock Springs Campground, and 
  • The play "High School Musical" Friday and Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 3 PM at the Cherryville Little Theatre.
