ALEXIS, N.C. – Tri-County Animal Rescue Pets of the Week are little Chihuahua mixes.  We have many Chihuahua mixes right now that need a forever home.  They range from 12 weeks to 3 years.  We have males and females.  We have Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix, Chihuahua/Dachshund mix and Chihuahua/Terrier mix. These pets are all small and weigh less than 20 pounds.  Most grooming is very simple…bath and brushing.   They are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines and micro-chipped.  Come on out…we will be looking for you.

Chihuahuas are comical, entertaining, and loyal little dogs. They are absolutely brimming with personality – often a quirky and eccentric personality unmatched by any other breed.  Chihuahuas do seem to recognize and prefer their own breed, so it's a great idea to keep two of them. They keep each other company when you're gone, they play together, clean each other's ears (Chihuahuas can be obsessive ear-lickers!), and keep each other warm by snuggling together.

Chihuahuas adore warmth! They will seek out the tiniest sunspot in which to bask, and they tunnel under blankets and towels. You have to be careful whenever you sit down on your sofa or bed, as there could be a Chihuahua tucked under there!

If you want a dog that: is small and easy to carry, comes in several different coats and colors, is oh-so-funny and entertaining in quirky ways, is very loyal, travels well, doesn't need much exercise, LOVES warm sunny climates, usually has a long lifespan…..then a Chihuahua may be right for you!

RESCUE BIG DOG Pet of the Week --- The Tri-County Animal Rescue Big Dog Pet of the Week is this beautiful Bloodhound mixed pup named Rosie.  She is 9-months-old and weighs 45-50 pounds.  Rosie is still growing so she will be getting bigger.   Rosie was malnourished when we first got her but she is filling out nicely.  She is very sweet and tries hard to please people.  Rosie will win your heart as soon as you meet her.  She is great with other dogs and would make a wonderful companion for your current dog.  Rosie has been spayed, current on vaccines and micro-chipped.  Please give Rosie a chance to become part of your family!  She will be looking for you this weekend.

It's difficult to resist the appeal of a Hounds dark brown eyes and their pleading expression. They're happy, outgoing and loving — characteristics more than balanced out by their hound nature, which is inquisitive, determined, and focused on food.  They aren't yappy dogs, but they do have three distinct vocalizations — a bark/growl, a baying howl, and a half-baying howl (a cross between a frantic bark and a bay). The half-howl vocalization usually is reserved for when they catch sight of quarry. Being pack dogs, they generally get along well with other animals and their human friends — and they think everyone is their new best friend.

The most important thing to know about these Hounds is that they are a scent hound. The nose is the most important part of his anatomy and his head is always down to the ground, searching for an interesting trail to follow.  Once on a scent, they can roam miles before they stop.  They use their nose to sniff out many things … especially food!  Hounds need lots of room to get their exercise so a fenced yard is a must.  If left alone and unexercised, Hounds can become destructive.
