The Christmas Crawl & Cruise-In in downtown Lincolnton Sunday afternoon (Nov. 29th) drew a huge crowd. There were classic vehicles, food trucks, and Santa was there. Streets were packed most of the afternoon. Some shoppers took advantage of several stores being open to get some holiday shopping done. City Lunch sold hot dogs outside from one o'clock until about 2:45, when they ran out of hot dogs. The Grinch made an appearance and so did Apple Queen Ava Parnell. While the event was in progress, Alan Hoyle and a group of volunteers placed the Nativity Scene on the Courtsquare.
Some of those who attended wore facial coverings; others did not. The City Council had chosen not to have a Christmas Parade because they feared a mass gathering might help spread the coronavirus. It will take a week or two to know whether Sunday's event may have done that. Cherryville had planned an event for Friday & Saturday in its downtown, but called it off. They've not scheduled another--they've calling it Sip, Shop & Indulge--for this Friday (Dec. 4th).
