Christmas for most is usually a glad time--a time of family gatherings, holiday parties and enjoyable meals, giving gifts and receiving them.  For some, who are in need, it can be much less enjoyable.  For many who have been affected by the pandemic, this Christmas will be a trying time.  Even if their family has avoided the virus, the effect it has had on the economy has left far more than usual in need.

Several Denver area businesses are helping spread Christmas magic and helping others less fortunate to enjoy the season.

Daniel Hipps coordinates Duke Energy’s Annual Giving Campaign to help support families in Lincoln County. As part of the campaign, Duke Energy arranges a getaway at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord for a family at Christmastime. Families in need are identified by several area agencies and non-profits. This year’s family was identified by Moms & Munchkins, a nonprofit parenting program designed to help adolescent parents become better caregivers. Additionally, Duke is providing Christmas for the identified family to include a Christmas tree, Christmas dinner, and gifts.

Royal Bliss Brewery owner Ginger Griffin, reached out to United Way of Lincoln County because they wanted to help. Many people are out of work and unable to afford necessities including warm coats, so Royal Bliss is currently hosting a Coat Drive to collect new or gently used winter coats for families in need. They are collecting all sizes and continue to encourage coat donations. The United Way reports that Royal Bliss Brewery has already delivered 39 coats they collected. If you would like to contribute to the Royal Bliss Coat Drive, drop-off donations at 7532 Royal Bliss Court in Denver--just off Waterside Crossing Blvd. just south of the Shoppes at Waterside shopping center--during normal business hours.

First Citizens Bank of Denver continues to host a Holiday Giving Drive in partnership with the United Way of Lincoln County. For the Holiday Giving Drive, First Citizens Bank has been collecting items for children who will be spending time at home during the Christmas break to help keep them busy, active, and provide them with stress-free holiday fun.  If you would like to contribute, drop off  items at 219 Hwy. 16 South in Denver through Friday, December 18th, during normal business hours.
