They're a favorite with almost everybody. They help raise money for Girl Scout programs. They're available only briefly from January to early March each year; and this year, they were marketed differently because of the pandemic. Door-to-door neighbor-to-neighbor sales were hampered by fear of the virus. Online orders helped, and some brave scouts and their leaders did do sales stops at various locations on weekends, hoping to sell boxes to shoppers who were out and about.
The Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont Council conducted a promotion to help boost sales. Any customer who bought five or more boxes in a single transaction could have his/her name put in a random drawing. Four winners from across the Peaks to Piedmont 40-county region were chosen to receive a year's supply of Girl Scout Cookies. Donna Tharp of Lincolnton was one of those winners. Donna got her cookies last week at First Federal Savings Bank, which is one of the locations where Girl Scouts from Troop 2308 did cookie sales.
