One of Shane Willis' songs is "That's What Country Boys Do." The country singer/songwriter has adopted that as his motto and this Saturday, he'll have yet another benefit event to help friends who are fighting cancer. The concert, featuring Willis and other entertainers, and truck show will be at the Ramsey Farm, 1616 Ramsey Farm Trail, just off Old Lincolnton-Crouse Road west of Lincolnton (make a right turn off NC150 or a left off NC182).

Early last year, Willis did a concert to raise money for three men fighting cancer: Nathan Setzer, Jesse “BJ” Truesdale and Bobby Turner. Bobby and B.J. have since passed away but Nathan is still fighting the cancer he has with chemo and radiation. Willis told us Nathan has liver and lung cancer, "but he's hanging in there."

This time, the event--scheduled for 3 - 10 Saturday (if it gets rained out, it'll be moved to Sunday, when the chances of rain go down according to the forecast) is to help two women. One of them is Nathan's wife Angie.

"About four months ago, Angie found out she has breast cancer," Willis told us. "She has been really, really sick. The chemo she took was what's called the 'red devil.' Adriamycin got that nickname because of its red color and the horrible side-effects it can produce: nausea, vomiting, hair loss and more. Now she's doing radiation."

The other woman for whom this event is being held is Kelly Edwards. “Kelly went in for a treatment to remove the cancer in her pancreas. Unfortunately, a little later, it had grown back in that area and also moved to other areas. She is currently undergoing chemo as well."

Willis, who will also be one of the entertainers at the DABA East Lincoln Fireworks Spectacular June 26th said this concert (and truck show) is even more important to him. "Angie Setzer and Kelly Edwards are such a blessing to us all. Their spirits are awesome and they just humble me so much as a person. I am so happy to help in just a small kind of way. I pray that just for a little while we can move their minds from the illnesses and worries they have, to having some fun and seeing the support team they have behind them. You can be an awesome part of that team Saturday as we put on a great truck show and concert for these two wonderful ladies."

The show starts at 3 PM. Tickets are $10 and if you want to enter a truck in the truck show, the entry fee is also $10. "We'll have trophies for first, second and third place."

In addition to Willis, other performers will include Roger Fournier and Brian Robinson, beach music singer Terri Gore; Vinnie D; 13-year-old Bailey Marie Griggs from Dallas; and the 3:16 Band, a Christian music group.

Advance tickets are available through eventbrite or www.shanewillismusic.com.
