There's a cast of some 60 people who are bringing this year's presentation of THUNDER OVER CAROLINA to its new home, WoodMill Winery, this Thursday, Friday & Saturday evening at 7:30. A special VIP performance for families of cast members, sponsors, etc. was done Wednesday evening. The dress rehearsal Tuesday evening was also so complete that the Thursday evening presentation will actually be the third.
THUNDER OVER CAROLINA is being directed by Pete DeGregory, and having watched some of the work he was doing hour after hour and day after day to prepare for the show, I can tell you it is no small undertaking.
The cast includes a good number of people you'll recognize instantly, but let's tell about their names in the play.
Hannah Lynch and Andrew Hatley will be playing the Pattens, one of the families represented in the historical drama. Terrell Barnes and Mary Bolton will play the roles of Alexander and Meredith Simpson. Reuben and William Simpson will be be portrayed Noah and Joseph Bolton.
Adam Reep and Susannah Seagle are being played by Hunter Curtis and Maris Carpenter. Christian and Betsy Reinhardt are being portrayed by Ryan Beale and Becca DeGregory. The roles of Michael and Jean Reinhardt are being played by Cora Hatley and Sawyer Bolton.
Dante’ Patterson will perform one of the key roles--as Colonel John Moore, and Chris Stone will play Kurt Moore.
The Ramsours will be played by Hollen Carpenter and Brian Nuhfer; the Shufords, by Thomas Devereux and Stephanie Grace Meyer.
Tom Dyson is best known to most for his work with the Extension Service, but he spent some time in a mission assignment in Mexico, so he may feel right at home in the role of Reverend Loretz.
Morgan and Lux Hatley, a real life mother and daughter duo will portrary Catherine and Elizabeth Reinhardt. Morgan will also perform as a soldier in the battle.
Shannon Hatley is performing as a Towns Person, but she is also the costume designer for the production. Jeff Hatley has the role of General Lord Cornwallis.
Roy Lightfoot, who is VP of Thunder Over Carolina, Inc., will perform as Captain Dickey; and Mike McClure will portray Colonel Locke.
Ryan Gurganious is playing Major Welch, and Steve Revis has the role of the Town Crier.
Jennifer Dockery, Denise McCoy, Lisa Pupkiewicz and Alice Barrett will perform as a part of the incredibly talented Ensemble.
Michael Ross will portray Captain Falls, and Addy Ross will be one of the Town's Children.
Drew Chance, whom you may have seen on the battlefield for the Ghost Walk the first weekend of June will be one of the Tory Sentries. Ansley Bagwell will be another.
The roles of Townspeople will include Kirk Herbertson, Anne Marie, Nick Sharp, and Judy Holland. Charles Holland will portrary Israel Bissel.
The trio of Autumn Bolton, Erika Shelton, and Bianca Pittman will be the Singers, performing the Greatest Hits of the late 1700s before the show, and weaving scenes together with music.
This year's production isn't just in a new place; it's also quite different from the original 1955 version of the play that was written and performed to commemorate the Battle of Ramsour's Mill. For one thing, there's much more about the events surrounding the battle.
Of course, being at WoodMill Winery makes the whole atmosphere different. THUNDER OVER CAROLINA is now an outdoor performance--so if you're going, remember, it's BYOC--Bring Your Own Chair. By the way, the chances of rain are not great, but they do increase slightly over the weekend, so catching the play Thursday or Friday night might be best. If you're concerned, bring along your umbrella. There will be some yummy treats from Anna's Sweet Treats to make the evenings even more fun, and before putting your chair in place to watch the play, you may want to visit WoodMill Winery's tasting room for a strawberry, Concord grape or apple wine slushie.
Tickets are $15; $10 for students and senior citizens, and you can order them online at eventbrite.com. THUNDER OVER CAROLINA is being sponsored by sponsored by WoodMill Winery, Lincoln Printing, BrickTree Brewing Co. and Gilleland Realty.
