THUNDER OVER CAROLINA continues Friday & Saturday evenings at WoodMill Winery just off John Beam Road near Cat Square. The historical drama has a new home and has been revised and expanded for this year's production. Tickets are $15...$10 for students, senior citizens and active military.
It's not every day that you can go on a Dinosaur Hunt--but you can Friday, Saturday or Sunday (10 AM - 6 PM) at Upton Family Farm on Hebron Church Road just off NC27 in far western Lincoln County. After driving the trail and 'hunting' dinosaurs (with supplied nerf guns), the kids can enjoy the slides, a ride on the dino train, feeding farm animals (some of them very unusual). There'll also be a show every two hours and food like you get at the fair. The price? $30 a carload--so bring the whole family! See the ad for more info.
Saturday is Juneteenth, and Lincolnton is having its first Juneteenth celebration at First Federal Park on N. Poplar Street 10 AM - 5 PM. Come enjoy free entertainment, check out what multiple vendors have to offer, and celebrate the good news: the War Between the States is OVER! (Some locally still don't appear to have gotten the news.) It's Juneteenth! Now a national holiday!
Other Juneteenth celebrations are occurring in Bessemer City (Friday evening), Belmont (celebrating its 10th year) and Gastonia (Saturday at the Rotary Pavilion downtown).
The first Music in the Park of 2021 happens Saturday evening 7:00 - 10:00 at Rescue Squad Park in Denver (on Galway Lane across from Lincoln Charter School). Cameron Long will provide the evening's FREE entertainment. There will be food trucks and beer & wine for purchase from Eleven Lakes Brewery.
For a relaxed evening this Saturday, join local authors and mother & daughter team Ashley Oliphant and Beth Yarbrough for their Jean Lafite Revealed stroll through downtown Lincolnton. Hear the stories their research has revealed and become better acquainted with our historic downtown. The tour begins at the Lincoln Cultural Center (E. Main @ Cedar St.) at 7 PM.
COMING NEXT WEEK: Lincolnton's first Alive After Five since 2019 happens Thursday (June 24th). The Embers kick off this year's free downtown concerts. On Saturday, it's the DABA Fireworks & Music Spectacular at East Lincoln stadium. It begins at 4 PM and includes music by country superstar Craig Campbell along with Cooper Alan & Shane Willis. The night ends with one of the biggest fireworks displays anywhere around. Admission is FREE, and this year, you can park at the old Park 'n' Ride location in front of Walmart on NC73 and ride the shuttle bus to and from David Clark Stadium.
