NEWTON, N.C. - Times have been so bizarre. Even more so for kid’s birthdays when the normalcy of a party would traditionally take place.... but when you’re in quarantine what do you do? What can you do???

Well we had no idea what we could do for our daughter’s 10th Birthday Celebration under social distancing orders. And considering she is so social we knew there had to be a safe way we could celebrate all while she could see her friends faces safely. So, after thinking - we thought let’s do a drive-in and instead of gifts we would ask all attendees to patronize a local small business!

We had no idea how it would go or if people would even come.... But we were willing to try so using e-vite, an application for electronic invitations we sent out over 15 invitations asking for friends to come wave to Maya for her 10th birthday. We told our guests she would sit in the back of the pickup truck, and instead of leaving a gift for her to buy items from Catawba Farms. *Catawba Farms is located in Newton and serves up some juicy burgers / pulled pork and they also have local wine and beer.

We had RSVP’s fly in just moments after sending the e-vite out! Everyone had replied it was a wonderful way to have the kids see each other and they loved the idea of buying items from a local farm! Catawba Farms was pleased to host Maya’s Party and pleased to have had a number of orders picked up from her attendees as they all safely drove by Maya holding up signs wishing her a happy Birthday on their way out from their pickup window!

While social distancing still remains in effect, there are still ways to go about being social safely! Plus, these sort of special celebrations, are good for the social well-being of getting outside and seeing other faces. It really allows our youth a safe way to celebrate and to know others are out there too as we are all in this together and people do care about your birthday even in quarantine!

Afterall, we had a safe, social distanced birthday celebration and one we will surely NOT ever forget! Catawba Farms also gave Maya a Farm Fresh Burger!

Catawba Farms is open for business through the week ... you can order online at Catawbafarms.com and easily do their curbside pickup - you can order there too but you have to wait in the car for your order to be carried out! They are located at 1670 Southwest Blvd. in Newton.

Remember no farms = No FOOD! Support your local farmers!
