Crouse Community History & Photo Project Press Release
CROUSE, N.C. - The Crouse Community History and Photo Project is celebrating eight years spent accumulating, organizing, identifying, cataloging, and archiving photos and documents pertaining to the history and families of the Crouse community.
On June 28, 2011 a request was sent out to the residents of Crouse asking for assistance in identifying individuals in numerous photos. They were also asked to submit any photos or documents that they wished to be included in the project. We encouraged people to share their old photos so the entire collection could be enjoyed by everyone.
The community was invited to join us on Tuesdays in the fellowship hall at Crouse United Methodist Church, Old Hwy 150, Crouse, NC (across the street from the post office) starting at 4 p.m. This was a huge project and would provide a pictorial history of the community. Plans were to continue this scheduled event each Tuesday until further notice. After a few months of weekly meetings the decision was made to switch to a monthly meeting to be held on the second Tuesday of each month.
The support and participation from the residents of Crouse was unbelievable. Each week items were submitted and treasures found within the photographs and this holds true eight years later. Each month we continue to identify people from the Crouse community, just different generations.
As reported in the May newsletter “So much has stayed the same, the enjoyment we get from identifying faces and places tied to this community and smiling with tear filled eyes as we remember those who are gone.“ It is with this statement in mind that the June meeting agenda was planned.
Please join us on Tuesday, June 11 at 4 p.m. as we take a look back to the beginning of the Crouse Community History and Photo Project. Take a trip with us to the “Way Back” as we enjoy photos from the earliest collections submitted and remember all of the wonderful people who made it all possible.
