Ella May Wiggins To Be Commemorated Sept. 14
Sept. 14 will mark the 90th anniversary of the murder of Ella May Wiggins. A famous labor organizer, mill worker and key figure in Gastonia’s Loray Mill Strike of 1929, Wiggins––known by all who knew her simply as Ella May––was gunned down by thugs commonly believed to have been hired by a mill owner or owners. It was an event that reverberated down through local, regional and national history for generations.
