Grace Lancaster Named Gabriel Scholarship Winner
Grace Lancaster has been awarded the Stephanie Lynn Gabriel Scholarship, named for a CVCC graduate who worked as an EMT until her death in an accident in 2010.  The scholarship, established by Gabriel's parents, helps a student in CVCCs Emergency Medical Science program.

Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grants
Most of those who fought on the side of the colonies seeking independence during the Ameridan Revolution were volunteers.  Many of them had never trained as soldiers.  There were also mercenaries--some from France, others German and Spanish, who fought for pay.  When the war ended, some of those volunteers were rewarded with grants for land.

Yes, Hallowe’en is almost upon us. Here in the South, ghosties, ghouls, haints and the like are often known as “boogers.” And it is perhaps with that in mind that the Lincoln Cultural Center is presenting “Boogers and Bingo,” Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at the James W. Warren Citizens Center. This frightfully fun event is a fundraiser for the LCC, with all proceeds going to its programming, operations and events.

The World Turned Upside Down
One of the most important dates in American history passed this week with no fanfare.  It was on October 19th, 1781, that Cornwallis, the general who had taken Charleston in 1780 and begun a march northward hoping to crush the rebels in the Carolinas, surrendered in the last major land battle of the American Revolution, a loss that led to negotiations for peace and the signing of the Treaty of Paris  in 1783.

Lincolnton, Lincoln County Water Systems Honored by DEQ
Our Lincolnton and Lincoln County water systems were among 66 statewide to receive AWOP awards for water quality for 2021.  Lincolnton was among 16 water systems in the state to receive the "Gold Star" award for having achieved the AWOP status for more than ten consecutive years.
