Michael Paul Baker was a 10-year-old student at Union Elementary School.  On Monday afternoon (Aug. 8th), he and his mother, Belinda Shrewsbury Baker, were killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Highway 27 east of Lincolnton.  A GoFundME account has been established for the Baker family.

College's Practical Nursing Program Best In State
It’s the best in North Carolina. It’s Gaston College’s licensed practical nursing program (or LPN), and according to college spokeswoman Linda Vespa, it has once more been ranked as the number-one such program in North Carolina, having achieved a score of 98.19 percent.

The End of the Revolution
Wars eventually end.  The US involvement in Afghanistan was America's longest.  The Vietnam War lasted a decade; World War II (for the US) began in December 1941 and ended in 1945.  The American Revolution began in 1775--the year before the Declaration of Independence.  It came to an end with the Paris treaty in 1783.

This year, for the first time, Juneteenth is an official National Holiday.  It will be celebrated next Monday (June 20th).  Most Juneteenth celebrations will be held on Saturday (June 18th) including one in downtown Lncolnton.

Health Directors Share Levine Award for 2022

Bridge Replacement in Catawba County

Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence & Halifax Resolves
There are two dates on the North Carolina state flag.  One of those is the date of the legendary Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, the name given to a document supposedly produced on May 20, 1775.  Historians now believe it may be a so-called 'urban legend,' but real or not, it's part of our history.

Founded in 1972, East Gaston High School serves the Mount Holly and Stanley communities in Gaston County, N.C. The mascot is a Warrior, with navy and cardinal as the school's official colors. Commencement was held Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. in Arrowhead Stadium.

School Lunch Price Increase

Alive After Five Rained Out
Lincolnton's first Alive After Five concert of 2022 was rained out on Thursday (May 26th).  The Eagles tribute band On the Border had hoped to get the event started early, moving up their start time to 6 PM, but the weather that included a tornado warning, rain, wind and lightning forced a cancellation.
