James Ervin Stancil
October 4, 1952 - April 6, 2019

NEWTON, N.C. - James Ervin Stancil, 66, of Newton passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Carolina Caring of Sherrills Ford.

He was born October 4, 1952 in Cabarrus County to the late Jack and Mary Honeycutt Stancil. James was a United States Army veteran and employed with Duke Energy as a Nuclear Maintenance Technician.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Stancil.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years Sherry Black Stancil of the home; son Scott Stancil and wife April of Concord; daughters Tammy Trexler and husband Mike of Salisbury, Heather Weaver and husband Brian of Newton, Amanda King and husband Greg of Catawba; sister Ellen Frye of Oil City, Pa.; grandchildren Andrew Stancil, Matthew Stancil, Addison Weaver, Zachary King, Zayne King, Susannah Trexler, Caleb Trexler, Jacob Trexler and Briannah Trexler.

A memorial service with military honors to celebrate James’s life will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton. Rev. Kevin Laney will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring, (formerly Catawba Regional Hospice), 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
