MAIDEN, N.C. - Marcus Vaughn Woodring, age 70, of Maiden won his battle with ALS on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his residence.
Born on September 9, 1948 in Catawba County, he was the son of Charlie Ray Woodring and the late Myrel Katherine Williams Woodring. He served in the Army with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam and received a purple heart and bronze star. Vaughn retired after 25 years from Piedmont Turf Farm in Maiden.
In addition to his mother, two sisters, Norma Monday and Katherine Isenhour, preceded in him in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years Catherine Martin Woodring of the home; daughter Melissa Woodring of the home; son Eric Woodring and wife Christy of Maiden; father Charlie R. Woodring of Maiden; three grandchildren Ethan Woodring, Ben Woodring, Addie Woodring all of Maiden; three brothers Dennis Woodring and wife Polly of Virginia, David Woodring and wife Janice of Newton, Kevin Woodring of Maiden; two sisters-in-law Phyllis Wilkinson, Paula Buff; brother-in-law Neil Buff; numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; grand-dog Jake; special great-niece Ellianna Duvall; and caretaker Tammy Webb.
The funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 2 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church, 3537 Maiden Hwy., Lincolnton, NC 28092 with Rev. Gregg Plott officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday night, May 30, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at McKendree UMC Fellowship Hall.
Vaughn’s favorite color was blue and the family requests those attending funeral to wear it in his honor.
