NEWTON, N.C. - Floy Mae McDonald Abernethy, age 87, of Newton passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Carolina Caring in Newton.
Floy Mae was born March 18, 1932 in Catawba County to the late Gudger Charlie and Myrtle Jones McDonald. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Newton. Floy Mae was retired from American & Efird after 21-1/2 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Vernon Ben Abernethy; two sisters Ruby Clinton and Mary Campbell; two brothers, Charlie “Rufus” McDonald and infant brother, J. B. McDonald.
She is survived by three daughters Gail Little and husband Bobby and Dean Eades and husband Derek, both of Newton and Jean Bolick and husband Jamie of Lenoir; son Neal Abernethy of Newton; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; stepdaughter Laverne Bolick of Newton; and sister Polly Hull and husband Gerald.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor Derek Cline officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church.
