LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Russell Ray Thornburg, age 91, of Carolina Care in Cherryville, and formerly of Lincolnton, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. in the Philathea Class of the church.

Ray was born January 30, 1928, in Cabarrus County, to the late Robert Hall Thornburg and Irene Hammett Thornburg. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Brinkley Thornburg. He served in the United States Navy, and then worked for BellSouth as a public relations manager.
